Garden Rooms During Winter

Are Garden Rooms Warm Enough During Winter?

Wooden garden buildings are incredibly versatile. Whether you use yours as a home office or a garden room, they’re perfect for the warmer months. But when the temperature drops, surely your garden office will become draughty, damp and uninviting?

Nothing could be further from the truth. At Warwick Buildings, we engineer your modern garden room to be as snug and comfortable as the rest of your home. Here’s how you can ensure you have a warm garden office when the winter weather arrives.

How do I Keep My Garden Office/Room Warm?

We all know that spending time outdoors is good for your health and well-being. Knowing what choices to make to keep a garden house warm will help you get the most out of your wooden garden buildings all year round.

Insulation

We insulate your garden building using premium modern materials to keep the heat in and create a comfortable temperature. We’re always looking out for better and more innovative ways to keep your garden studio warm and cosy. For example, our five-layer wall section includes a vapour barrier, insulation and internal lining board to keep your room dry and warm.

We use a combination of highly efficient materials, including Rockwool and PIR, to provide the best possible thermal and sound insulation, fireproofing and breathability. Rockwool gives exceptional fire performance with up to four hours of fire resistance. Meanwhile, PIR boards are manufactured to resist microbial and mould growth and offer superior moisture control, which is one of the reasons we use them for floor insulation.

In addition, our wooden garden buildings are fitted with high rated double glazing, either PVCu or aluminium, to suit the aesthetic of your studio or office.

Heating

Our contemporary garden offices are designed to need very little heating. Because of the excellent thermal performance of your building, you’ll find it’s cool in summer and warm in winter. You may need an extra heat boost in the coldest weather, but our outdoor rooms are supplied with electrics, so our electrician can wire in your choice of energy-efficient heating.

Options for Temperature Control

If you do need a temperature boost, there are several options that can bring a touch of warmth and luxury to your wooden garden buildings.

Wall-mounted radiators are a popular choice and can be easily wired in by our electrician. You could also opt for underfloor heating or a reversible air conditioning unit that will keep the air at the perfect temperature year-round.

Consider the Size and location of the Building

When you plan your modern garden room, you should also keep in mind the size and location of your space. Both can significantly impact how you keep your garden office warm.

We create each building to your specifications, so it can be as large or small as you need. The larger the space, the more energy and time it takes to heat. However, our contemporary garden offices are so well insulated that you’ll only need additional heating for the largest building.

It’s also worth considering where in your garden you intend to position your garden office. Because installation is included with your wooden building, we’ll be happy to advise you on the best location. For example, a structure positioned in direct sunlight in a south-facing garden is cheaper to run and more sustainable because it uses less energy for heating and lighting than a north-facing building.
